Retinal Imaging
Why should I have Digital Fundus Photographs taken?
The earliest detection of ocular disease is possible through regular eye exams, retinal photos and OCTs. Retinal problems such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Retinal Holes, Detachments, and Diabetic Retinopathy can be detected, documented and monitored with retinal photos. Many diseases such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Diabetic Retinopathy tend to progress without symptoms in early stages. The risk for most of these diseases increases with age. It is vital for ocular disease to be detected early since any one of these conditions may lead to partial or total loss of vision.
What is the cost for this service?
Insurance is designed to cover basic eye exams only. It does not usually cover procedures like retinal imaging. Our doctors recommend this addition to the examination for all patients and can be offered at an additional cost of $39.00. Medical insurance can be billed with certain diagnoses.
